This chair is a fine example of a classical period design with the most spectacular elaboration being present along the crest. A central panel of crotched mahogany veneer is boldly emphasized with stylized classical carvings to either end and a curved and shaped overall form which provides comfort as well as aesthetic appeal. A curved back support spans horizontally below the chair crest and also features bold crotched mahogany grain. The chair frame is molded with a rounded over reeded profile which allows the contoured lines to lead your eye to the crest of the chair as the entire design freely flows from that decorative element. We believe this chair to be a product of the third quarter of the 19th century made sometime between the years 1850 - 1875. This chair is the perfect companion for most antique desks or could be used in any room of the home as an accent chair. We would strongly refer any client looking to give their interior an added design boost to this chair particularly if the room already features a beautiful antique mahogany furnishing. The chair is in near perfect condition and has remained very sturdy and well suited for regular use. The front legs are well formed having been turned by a master wood turner while the rear legs are curved and provide added support. The seat features a beautiful upholstered fabric with a floral pattern over a field of vibrant blue. The trapezoidal form of the seat along with the varying curves and contour make this chair among the most comfortable antique chairs one can ever hope to find. The chair measures 21” wide x 19” deep x 35 1/4” tall with a 18 1/2” tall seat height. See less
