Gushing represents a transition between Peerna’s earlier Maelstrom series based on circular motion, and the later Thaw and Melt series that are based on vertical streaks. This in-between work captures the expressive gestures of air in turbulent motion, with vertical interventions made with erasers and water dissolving the flow. The medium is pigment pencil on plastic paper. At the time she was inspired by the several severe hurricanes of the early 2010s. less
