This charming Arts & Crafts style planter pot, crafted in the 1920s by Peters & Reed of Zanesville, Ohio, exemplifies the artistry of the era. Made in the iconic Moss Aztec pattern, the pot features a deeply carved dragonfly design that brings a touch of nature to its form. The piece is made from deep red clay, giving it a warm, reddish-brown color, and is finished with a matte glaze accented by green deposits, creating an organic and earthy feel.
Measuring 4-1/2" in diameter, this round bowl-shaped planter holds both historical and personal significance. It was a gift from Alta Rockefeller Prentice to the wife of geneticist Hubert Dana Goodale, part of their connection to Mt. Hope Farm in the Berkshires of Massachusetts. This planter is an excellent addition to any collection of art pottery or a perfect decorative piece for anyone who appreciates the beauty of Arts & Crafts design.
