This pretty Japanese plate was made during the Meiji reign of 1868 to 1912 by Kinkozan, a company from Kyoto, Japan. They produced high quality pottery from the late 1800's to early 1900's. .
The plate was produced with a technique using ceramic, metal and glaze. It took several high heat firings in the kiln to produce each piece. As a result, the glaze is brittle and prone to pitting, cracking and crazing.
This 7-1/4" plate is a fine example of cloisonne from Kyoto during the turn of the century. Although it does present the typical pitting and surface imperfections, it has no chips and no cracks. With care, this cloisonne piece will bring many more years of enjoyment to all who see it. less
