Metlox introduced Lotus in the early 1970s, a line that was produced until the late 1980s with a thirteen-color spectrum, creamy white being the color of this set of bowls. Lotus was one of seventy patterns Metlox produced within the Poppytrail Collection, which debuted in 1934 and continued until Metlox closed its doors in 1989 for good, after 62 years of operating in Manhattan Beach, California. These charming and timelessly elegant bowls were fashioned to mimic lotus blossoms, textured veining on the interiors with smooth exteriors. Medium is earthenware in a highly glazed creamy white hue. Each bowl measures 7” x 6¾” x 2¼” W/D/H; 12 oz. liquid capacity per bowl; together the set weighs 2 lbs. 7 oz. In excellent condition. Of note, two of the four bowls have one chip on the rim, apiece, mostly indiscernible due to the color (see photos 1 & 3) that do not detract from their beauty or utility. Makers mark on the underside of each bowl. A fabulous set for a collector of the Lotus pattern or the perfect gift for someone who is.
