This art nouveau inspired piece is … more Late Victorian flow blue Phoenix Ware biscuit jar by Thomas Forester & Sons, London. This art nouveau inspired piece is distinct with it's gold ground and hand painted cobalt lily flower decoration. The lid rim is silver plate and is marked with the hallmark for Henry Rogers & Sons, Sheffield, England, dating this piece to about 1897.
The round lid plate is embossed brass with a pewter figural child attached. Perhaps this jar was originally intended to be used for baby biscuits.
Overall, this lovely antique jar presents nicely with minimal wear. On the inside, there is some flaking of the adhesive that was used to hold the lid rim to the base. It does not distract from the piece and it does not appear that the lid is in danger of coming undone. less
