A beautiful pair of original and skillfully hand-colored c.1756 bird engravings, by British naturalist and ornithologist George Edwards (1694-1773). Fabulous presentation of the AMERICAN WATER RAIL, plate#279 & THE BENGALLEAN BUSTARD, plate#250. Mr. Edwards was known as "The Father of British Ornithology". Please enlarge the photos to see the plate number, title & signature on each bird engraving.
Each engraving has a certificate of authenticity, signed by the renowned Framer & Collector, Paul B. Victorius (1899-1970). He designed the velvet lined Frame Box so as not to touch the engraving itself. Front of frames are in nice condition & the back of frames shows age but has important documentation. Rare find & real treasures.
