One of the best Savonarola designed armchairs we have seen, with exceptional wood carving including the back panel with Northwind face complete with articulated horns, carved gargoyles heads and hoofed feet. Original finish, and sometimes the North Wind Face is known as the Green Man. This chair has a rather pleasing example of the facial expression associated with this character.
This ticks all the correct boxes and will suit many an interior whether traditional or modern - see photographs.
Retains makers label on underside as shown.
Late 19th Century.
