Description: This antique hand-painted inkwell in the form of a reclining and roaring lion's bust is made of cast white metal … more This antique hand-painted inkwell in the form of a reclining and roaring lion's bust is made of cast white metal and is expertly hand painted in naturalistic colors. It is substantial and heavy. The top of the head flips open to reveal the original glass well insert. The lion's made is detailed brown, black and beige while the teeth are white and the inside of the mouth is red. The eyes are black and gray, the claws are black. These details are hand-painted.

This desk accessory was made during the era of hand-written letters when desk accessories were fun and imaginative. This casting of this figure is crisp and realistic, and the painting is expertly done. There is some minor rubbing of the paint on the bottom edges where the inkwell sits on a desk, but this is of little concern as it cannot be seen in display and it is natural to the age and use of the inkwell.
