Muslim hexagram for the symbol of The Seal of Solomon. Rare piece most likely dating from early 1800's. This box would have been used by a soldier or more likely an officer of high rank to store gun cartridges or other personal items. This one is from the Ottoman Balkans, most probably Serbia, Bulgaria, Bosnia or maybe Albania. One side is decorated in relief with a large Sulaiman's (Solomon's) a pair of cypress trees on either side. The area above the very top of the seal has a patch where the silver is a slightly different shade of silver, more "silver" in color. I cannot determine why this is. Please refer to the photos. A six-pointed fleurette adorns the very top of the hinged lid. The opposite to the seal is decorated in vines of flowers with what may be a rising sun in each corner The very center has a raised round floral medallion. Has hinged flip lid. There is a ring on each side of the box for suspension. less
