We purchased this chromolithograph in Paris on a recent trip. Horto Van Houtteano was a Belgian 19th century artist known for his works with botanicals. This image dates to c1850. It is numbered and has the artist's imprint on the right lower side of the image. This image is of the "Rhododendron" blossom. The image has clarity and beauty, typical of the period. The white blossoms are clean and vibrant and contrast beautifully with the dark green tones of the leaves. This chromolithograph was a former folio centerfold. There is NO foxing on the image. It is quite special and will be further enhanced when matted and framed. The image is 12.25 by 9 inches in horizontal format and comes matted in a neutral tone 16 x 20 inch mat ready for a standard size frame. Please allow time for custom matting. less
