The beauty of this charming Royal Delft square covered jar is only exceeded by the rarity of the Pijnacker motif. The Japanese Imari style Pijnacker uses an under glaze enamel blue and an above enamel red with 24 carat gold leaf. Because it requires three firings and thus high production costs, it was taken out of production in 2008. Royal Delft is completely handmade, hand painted, and produced in comparatively small numbers. I started buying De Porceleyne Fles, (the Porcelain Bottle) in the late 1980's for my store, Halifax Fine Furnishings, located in Roanoke, Virginia after visiting the factory in Holland and falling in love with its beauty and uniqueness. Hand painted Royal Delft items can be identified on the back or bottom of the item by the factory mark (pharmacy bottle, JT initials, "Delft"). On the lower left are the painters initials and the lower right, the year code. The year code on this item is 1985 and the master artist who painted it is L. A. de Bloois. This item has either been in a display case or in storage since its purchase and is in excellent, if not, mint condition.
De Porceleyne Fles is the only remaining Dutch factory of the original earthenware factories that were established in Delft in the 17th century. It is one of the oldest companies in the world and the world's oldest ceramic company, 50 years older than Meissen and almost a century older than Wedgwood. less less
