This is a hand-colored folio sized lithograph entitled "Iyngipicus Peninsularis, Hargitt" (Travancore Pygmy Woodpecker) by John Gould from his monograph … more This is a hand-colored folio sized lithograph entitled "Iyngipicus Peninsularis, Hargitt" (Travancore Pygmy Woodpecker) by John Gould from his monograph "The Birds of Asia", published in London in 1850-1883. The print, which was drawn by Gould and J. W. Hart and lithographed by Hullmandel and Walton, depicts two woodpeckers perched on a tree limb with food in their beaks for baby birds in a nest in a hollowed out portion of a larger sage-colored tree branch with pea green-colored leaves. The adult birds are striped brown and cream-colored. The male bird has two red stripes on the side of its head. The
This beautiful Gould hand-colored woodpecker lithograph has a few small spots in the right upper corner and a small area of discoloration in the lower margin on the left. It is otherwise in excellent condition. The original text page is included with a round blindstamp in the right lower corner. less
