Samir Sammoun Large Framed 32" x 38" Oil on Canvas Original "Torrey Pine" Impressionist Painting 2014
Samir Sammoun tries to make the person looking at this painting feel the color of the sky, ground, and Ocean, the temperature of the air, the breeze in the Torrey Pine tree, or the sound of the ocean.
Samir Sammoun is an experienced Lebanese artist based in Canada whose paintings have been exhibited nationally, as well as in the United States and Austria. Creating in a distinctive post-impressionist style, his landscapes, cityscapes, and seascapes all reflect a sense of tranquility and positivity. In his artistic process, Sammoun employs a rich color palette of up to thirty shades in oils on linen canvases.

b. 1952
Lebanese-born Samir Sammoun’s impressionistic paintings of landscapes, beaches, and old European cities are characterized by soft, subtle brush strokes that resemble glimmering lights. Sammoun, who first began painting at 13, began a second career as an artist later in life while successfully working as a telecommunications engineer. His landscape paintings demonstrate his lilting and fluid gestures. The Torrey Pine tree painting (2014) for instance, shows a vast field of delicately-colored plants underneath a cloudy blue sky with the Pacific Ocean in the background. The artist portrays the bountiful Torrey Pine tree and beautiful ground cover brush underneath with such grace that the landscape appears to be almost dancing across the canvas. Sammoun has had solo exhibitions at institutions including the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and the Latino Art Museum in Pomona, California. The painting is framed in a stunning custom gold leaf wood frame.
The painting came out of a La Jolla California Estate circa 2014.

Bio:
Samir Sammoun was born in a quaint Lebanese village perched atop the Chouf Mountain, 40 km south of Beirut in 1952. To this day, the artist vividly recalls the colourful Mediterranean landscape of his childhood. Samir Sammoun immigrated from Lebanon to Canada at age 21 where he obtained degrees in electronic engineering and telecommunications. Since graduation, he has pursued his professional career as well as his passion, painting. Samir Sammoun does have a unique post impressionist style and technique. When starting to paint, Sammoun carefully prepares his canvas with burnt sienna, which he applies with a pig-bristle brush then wipes with a rag to remove any excess. His goal is to have the grain of the canvas show. This technique is used to create the illusion of light emanating from inside the painting. Layers of paint give a natural texture to the canvas. The artist’s technique, successive voluntary strokes, generates a certain relief and variation in the shades. Sammoun’s art should be viewed from a distance of a few feet. At first glance, his paintings seem blurred. Only when the viewer is at the right distance does the depth of the relief and scene appear in three dimensions. Sammoun almost never uses classical perspective. His initial sketch resembles a few blotches that outline shadows and basic reference points in the scene that he has already turned over many times in his mind. The work is then carried out in the ‘automatist’ style that relies on the number of strokes previously applied. The final result comes only at the end when the layers of light are placed in the appropriate places according to the texture generated.
