Majel Logan (nee McHugh) (American, 1916-1982) was born in Utah. After graduation from St. Mary of the Wasatch College in Utah, she studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. She continued to study at Idaho State University before eventually settling in Santa Clara, CA. Although she was a professional artist at the time, she nonetheless continued her studies at San Jose State University in the 1970s.

By the mid-70s, she had won 43 awards in state, regional, and local competitions, including Fiesta des Artes (Los Gatos, CA), the Santa Clara County Fair (first place, watercolors), and Los Gatos Art Association Show. She had solo exhibitions at Villa Montalvo, San Jose State University, deSaisset Gallery, the San Jose Art League, the Rosicrucian Museum, and the San Francisco Art Festival. Logan served as a board member and president of the San Jose Art League, was on the board of directors for the San Jose Museum of Art, and was a member of the Santa Clara Artist’s Guild. She taught at the San Jose Art Center, the Barbizon School, and with the Los Gatos Art Association.
