Original folio notes and conservator technical data are presented on the reverse. They detail this was imagined after Hogarth's first trip to France in 1749, when he was less than impressed by what he discovered!
A simple chef is presenting a desirable rack of beef, while being intercepted by a clergyman, envied by military and local authorities, and eyed by hungry onlookers of all social strata.
A statement on politics, culture, and civil discourse between France and Hogarth's beloved England!
Presented in the Gallery style with elegant gilt and black molding and museum mat. Molding showing gentle patina and some marking but the look is perfect!
