A total of 6 panels removed from a Beverly Hills house prior to demolition.. 4 of which measure 82x20 and 2 measuring 86x26. They are solid wood and include the original handles and curtain panel rods at the top and bottom. (please inquire if you'd like to have the curtains which are a sheer beige) Painted a brown tone color indicative of the 1950s and 60s.

Hand crafted using an ancient Japanese technique of assembling fine cut wood pieces with an accuracy of 0.1mm to create beautiful patterns without using a single nail or screw. The frame joints are cut, their edges chamfered and lengths adjusted, each step of the process requiring skill and experience.

In Japanese architecture, various designs have been used for centuries to partition spaces inside buildings. For example, fittings such as ‘Shoji’ screens or latticework have various characteristics allowing light to go through to an area providing beautiful shades and contrast.

Kumiko requires highly skilled and passionate artisans. For some time, the trend has been that fewer young artisans are drawn to the craft resulting in these vintage pieces becoming even more coveted.

The exception is a single panel which, during transit, the dislocation of some 25-30 individual wood pieces occurred. I have saved those dislodged pieces for future reassembly. The pattern is straightforward so the pieces fit back together easily enough for a detail-oriented person to manage the task. Regarding the original painted surface, there are some worn places, fading and scratches. The original hardware is intact and is, as well, in age appropriate condition. less
