In 14k … more A fine pair of Etruscan Revival style earrings.
By the New York City Modernist female goldsmith Resia Schor.
In 14k gold.
Comprised of hand-built 14k gold loop elements supporting drops with blue glass beads and flower terminals.
Designed with stylistic elements of the work of Resia's husband, Ilya Schor, Cubism, and Brutalism. Incorporating these elements in addition to a strong nod to the design of ancient jewelry of the Mediterranean, Resia Schor's work is strongly feminist, intensely modern, and a style wholly new.
Resia Schor (née Ainstein) was a Jewish Polish-American artist who immigrated to New York in 1941 with her newlywed husband to escape the war in Europe. Resia obtained a degree in painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and exhibited paintings in NYC in the 50’s as Resia Ain. She also studied silversmithing with her husband Ilya Schor, who was a renowned multi-talented artist & creator of Judaica in his own right. Following Ilya’s untimely death in 1961, Resia fully transitioned to metalwork, creating jewelry, Judaica, & multi-media sculptures that all share her unique abstract modernist style. Resia’s influential work was featured in numerous exhibitions across the country for the better part of 4 decades.
All in all, simply a wonderful ring from one of the important female goldsmiths of the 20th Century!
