Paul was a talented and prolific artist, designer and woodcarver, his artistry adorns thousands of New England homes and businesses with beautiful quarterboards and tavern signs. His carved ornate fireplaces in homes on Nantucket are considered the finest art. His influence and creations, after 50+ years in his woodcarving career, now extend around the world.
Paul was the resident woodcarver at the USS Constitution Museum, he also hand-carved the whaling scene outside of the world renowned Whaling Museum on Nantucket Island. He transformed the town of Cohasset into “Eastwick” with many hand-carved signs for the movie set “The Witches of Eastwick”.
He won numerous awards and accolades for his life-like bird carvings in multiple competition venues, and for signage in Sign of the Times magazine.
He co-wrote and illustrated two books, Woodcarving Illustrated I and Woodcarving Illustrated II. Additionally, his work is featured in several notable books, including American Eagle: The Bold Art & Brash Life of John Haley Bellamy and Quarterboards: A Unique Art Form, wherein the authors lauded him as one of the finest historical woodcarvers and craftsmen of this century.
