This pose gives the appearance that they may be in heavy thought enjoying whatever piece of literature they may be indulged in. Deeply pondering! Both monkeys sit knees drawn in atop a type of metal decorated faux burl wood base with a reddish hue. The front is black to match the lower base and neatly squared in order to better support your books, while the back is nicely rounded. The lower black base is slightly larger than the base the monkeys sit on giving a very pretty tiered look adding to the overall depth of the pieces. and adding to the aesthetic appeal. Bookends suspected to be either Maitland Smith or made by Chapman, no documentation of either remains. The bases are not very heavy, likely hollow. A soft pad has been applied underneath to protect your furniture. See less
