Artist's Bio:
A South Carolina artist, Alice Scott (1924-2005) studied painting techniques at the Art Students League, New York City. She also studied under Robert Brackman (Connecticut), and with Richard Lahey of the Corcoran Gallery (Washington, D.C.). She also studied sculpture with both Hainz Warneke and Don Turano.
During the 1940s through the 1960s she lived in Charleston and was active as a painter and theater designer. While working in New York she was commissioned to design sets for a European tour of George Gershwin's "Porgy and Bess". Later in her career the artist depicted scenes throughout the American South, including landscapes and bird and animal studies within Florida. Her paintings, watercolors and sculpture were exhibited at the Pensacola Art Center (Pensacola, Florida), the Gallery of Art (Panama City, Florida), Lemoyne Art Foundation (Tallahassee, Florida), High Museum of Art (Atlanta, Georgia), Twentieth Century Gallery (Williamsburg, Virginia), Gibbes Art Gallery (Charleston, South Carolina) and the Columbia Museum of Art (Columbia, South Carolina). less
