a large Chinese porcelain auspicious symbols aquarium bowl, a stoutly potted, heavy, circular, goldfish bowl, with a polychrome glazed exterior and interior and an unglazed, flat base. The wide rim is decorated with six rectangular cartouches of Taoist symbols amid peonies, plum blossoms and leafy flowers, alternating with dividing panels of Taoist symbols amid peonies and leafy flowers, citrons and other fruits and butterflies, all on a rich, gold ground bracketed by red trim lines. This decoration is repeated more ornately within the four large cartouches quartered on the sides, which are framed by blue, cloud and thunder meanders, butterflies and Fu Bats at the top and a calligraphic scroll flanked by gold and red panels below. The large, side cartouches alternate with large ornate dividing panels repeating the Taoist ymbols and fruit and floral themes, all on a rich, gold ground. The white glazed interior is decorated with finely drawn, red and blue goldfish amid different types of aquatic plants on the interior side and bottom. A dark red, five character, rectangular seal mark in Zhuanshu script is glazed to the base. Circa mid century or earlier.
