Elegant, early 20th century English Georgian style mantel. This finely carved, painted wood fireplace mantel features Neoclassical, fluted colonette jambs with egg and dart pattern on the capitals. Acanthus, and "bead and reel" molding ornament the firebox surround. Cornerblocks are decorated with a cruciform acanthus motif. The substantial frieze features a central tablet with "C" scrolls and foliate carving extending from an openwork, rocaille shell motif, and flanking panels with additional scrolling acanthus ornament. Decorative moldings are repeated around the frieze panels and the cornice mantel shelf. The mantel is lovely in white, but could also be stripped for a natural wood finish.
