Still Life is a superb original oil painting on panel, realized around 1870 by the British artist Edward Ladell (1821-1886), the best known English still-life artist. The artwork represents fruits, vegetables, and animals on the ground near a big tree, immersed in a lush nature. A full mastery of the oil technique and an incredible fluidity of the brushstrokes are demonstrated here. In excellent conditions, except for some peeling of color on the right margin. This defect does not affect the image, the beauty is preserved. Including a golden frame, this is a really precious piece to keep jealously in your private collection! Little is known of Edward Ladell 's personal life other than that he has spent his teenage years working for his father who was a coach builder. Although he was self-taught, he may have apprenticed as a pattern designer for a Flemish textile company in Colchester when he was a young man. The artist went on to exhibit at the Royal Academy, the British Institute, and the Royal Society of British Artists. He died on November 9, 1886, in Exeter, United Kingdom. Today, his works are held in the collections of the Museum of Croydon in London, the Royal Albert Museum in Exeter, and the Mercer Art Gallery in Harrogate.
