1960’s Mid Century Modern Director Chairs, by designer Robert Kjer Jakobsen from the Thomas Lovejoy Estate (Godfather of Biodiversity), 4 Black Suede, Wood and Chrome.
I love these director chairs they are the same size as normal chairs. Sexy suede and chrome is what attracted me to these chairs. I acquired these chairs from the Thomas Lovejoy Estate ( Godfather of Biodiversity)
Renowned American conservation biologist Thomas Lovejoy, credited with coining the term "biological diversity" in 1980, passed away on December 25 at the age of 80. Lovejoy, residing in northern Virginia, dedicated over five decades to Amazon rainforest conservation. He established the nonprofit Amazon Biodiversity Center, raising global awareness about tropical deforestation threats. Awarded his initial grant by the National Geographic Society in 1971, Lovejoy became an Explorer at Large in 2019.
Described by Jill Tiefenthaler, the Society's CEO, as an exceptional scientist and unwavering planet advocate, Lovejoy was recognized for fostering connections to preserve fragile ecosystems and cornerstone species. In 1980, he published the inaugural estimate of global extinction rates, accurately predicting a substantial loss of species by the early 21st century. Holding a Ph.D. in biology from Yale University, Lovejoy advised multiple administrations, the United Nations Foundation, the World Bank, and various organizations on species protection and conservation biology advancements.
From 2010 onward, Lovejoy served as a professor in environmental science and policy at George Mason University in Virginia.
Robert Kjer Jakobsen, furniture designer contributed to the rising popularity of the sleek Danish modern wood furniture style. Designing for the company from 1949 to 1985, he gained recognition for his excellent designs, showcased in the "California Design" exhibition series by the Pasadena Art Museum in the 1960s and 1970s.
One of Jakobsen's notable designs is a chrome and black director's chair, featured in the 1968 "California Design Ten" exhibition catalog. This chair, highlighted in the photograph above, remains sought after and is frequently available for purchase today.
