This is a rare and beautiful museum quality John Calvert chess set.
You will be hard pressed to find one of these in this good of shape. Whether your a collector or chess enthusiast this is an investment that would grace any home.
John Calvert was one of the top chess set makers in England from 1791 until his death in 1822, after which his widow Dorothy took over the Calvert business until her death in 1840. Many of the Calvert sets have the “Calvert 189 Fleet St” stamp. Some are unstamped but clearly attributable to Calvert, this set bares the stamp and is in great condition for its age. Whether your a chess player, enthusiast or a collector this is an investment that will grace anyone’s home.
