- This marvelous vintage 1970s mola art textile with a figurative bird in kaleidoscopic designs and colors is carefully cut out … more This marvelous vintage 1970s mola art textile with a figurative bird in kaleidoscopic designs and colors is carefully cut out and stitched together by San Blas Islands craftswomen, creating an intriguing modern textile. This gorgeous mola can be framed, used to create a pillow or incorporated into a quilt. The term mola—the Kuna word for “cloth”—refers to brightly colored, intricately patterned textiles produced by the women of the coral archipelago of the San Blas Islands (aka the Kuna Yala) off the Atlantic coast of Panama. The Kuna population inhabits 60 of the 330 off-shore islands as well as the mainland of Panama and the Atrato River Valley of Colombia. This beautiful mola shows a large bird in many dimensions and colors with a red base and blue back panel. Measurements for this fabulous creation are: Height from top to bottom=13-1/2 inches, Width from side to side=17 inches. This beautiful mola has been well cared for, never displayed and is in excellent vintage condition, free from tears, staining fading or other imperfections. It is perfect to be displayed framed or could be used for a pillow or quilt, particularly if you like the indigenous design! less
