Finest meissen porcelain figurine: dancer balancing on her toes, turning her head to the right and bringing her right hand indecisively to her chin, while with her left hand she performs a defensive gesture - feigning horror at the impetuous courtship of her gallant eusebius. She wears a crinoline dress decorated with flowers and a bonnet. The figure is supported by a pedestal and rests on an oval plinth painted with a diamond pattern. Designed by paul scheurich (1883-1945) who was painter, sculptor, graphic artist, drawer and stage designer. He worked for meissen manufactory from 1913 to 1936 and belonged to one of most important porcelain designers of the first half of the 20th century. On the design: in 1912/13 paul scheurich designed and modeled five figures from the russian ballet 'carnival'. The ballet was arranged in st. Petersburg in 1910 by mikhail fokin after robert schuhmann's piano music and was danced in berlin by the ballet company sergei diaghilews, a performance that scheurich had deeply impressed.
