In the past forty years we have owned all manner of antique oak office furnishings and we can state with all confidence that this piece is among the rarest ever produced for the American market. This cabinet was designed for a high efficiency office place and is comprised of three vertical stacking units with a total of 18 different drawers for a wide array of varying document storage requirements. Similar to a barrister bookcase this system has five individual components including a removeable top and base that all fit together when stacked vertically. This ingenious design allows the owner to take the entire system apart for easy transportation at any point in the future. Also like the great barrister bookcase manufacturers Macey, Globe Wernicke, Library Bureau Sole Makers, & Remington Rand this system features japanned metal bands along the sides as a further indication of the highest quality afforded to an oak office product of the early 20th century. Additionally the sides of the primary units are raised panel which is another marker of superior quality as compared to regular flat panel sides which are often veneered. The four drawers across the top unit are best suited for larger index or post cards as you would find on a typical card catalogue file cabinet from the arts & crafts era. The middle unit has six smaller index card drawers beside two standard sized file cabinet drawers. As an added feature the larger file cabinet drawers completely pull out and fold downward as to make access to all files stored away easier and more efficient. This particular feature is incredibly rare and speaks to the ingenuity of practical design and function that this cabinet demonstrates. The third unit houses six paper document drawers which are partitioned in the center allowing for optimal storage and organization. This exceptional cabinet will undoubtedly add utility, efficiency, and appeal to any room it is placed in. The cabinet measures 41 3/4" long x 18 1/2" wide x 47 1/4" tall overall. less
