Exquisite detail
An early cast, using the lost-wax process, also called cire-perdue. It is a method of metal casting in which a molten metal is poured into a mold that has been created by means of a wax model. Please notice the traces of lead and the clay/plaster left on the back of the medallion
Circa early/mid 19th century. Possibly French
Measurements: Approx. 5" diameter (across) x 1.5" thick
