Vintage solid cast brass Italian door knocker with scary evil devil man face. The large mascaron crest has been crafted in grotesque style and is sometimes called a chimera. A mascaron is an architectural ornamentation, typically a face, that is designed to prevent evil spirits from entering a building. The grotesque style means the face is depicted as a mythical creature, rather than strictly human. This symbolic element was intended to help protect those inside the home.
