Sideboard is made of mahogany and flame mahogany veneers. Drawers are all hand dovetailed as you expect to see. Secondary wood is poplar. The curved end doors open to shelved interiors. The central doors have raised diamonds on the central panels. This is a trait of Quervelle's as well as the sunburst in the center of the gadrooned edges. This drop center style sideboard is a well known model by Quervelle. Sometimes the central back has a mirror mounted in it and the central top is sometimes marble. This one he used beautiful flame mahogany veneers to set off these areas. The back splashes on the ends are sometimes carved. This model is slightly more refined with the choice of wood doing the talking. There are numerous similar sideboards like this known, including in the Philadelphia museum of art. Those are attributed to Quervelle, this one bears his label that was in use about 1825. The sideboard needs some minor restoration, mainly minor veneer repairs to the edge of the top and the edges of the doors. There are a couple of old repairs that could be done over and better. The finish is old but not sure if its original. The back legs have had angle iron attached to help stabilize them. The restoration work needed is not very serious, sadly at this time I dont have any one to do the work. This will be an important addition to anyone personal or institutional collection of American Empire furniture. Sideboard stands59 1/2" tall and is 70 3/4" wide and 23 1/4" deep. See less
