An original oil on canvas by artist Gustave Magnussen. This deep and expressive painting depicts picturesque sailboats resting in a harbor and was painted in 1925 as noted on the painted on the painting. It is in pristine condition and housed in a fine gilt frame. This is a lovely example of an early 20th century Danish-styled oil. Signed right. Excellent condition.

Biography: Gustave (Gustav) Magnussen
Born in Indiana on Feb. 24, 1868 of Danish parents, Gustav Magnussen studied art in Europe. He was a resident of San Francisco in 1900 and about 1902 settled in Los Angeles. During the 1930s he had a studio on Balboa Island in Newport Harbor.
He died in Balboa, California on Sept. 23, 1944. His rare works include landscapes, portraits, and miniatures.
