Part of an American Series of six prints done by the artists to test the US market. Hand Signed in Pencil by both artists. We have all six prints available here on Chairish. Will be shipped flat between two sheets of masonite and foam-cor.
Very rare as the entire editions were never completed, around ten or so prints were pulled to test the US Market for their work. Hand Signed by both Peter and Traudl Markgraf, the husband and wife artist team.
Nowhere is the delicate balance of technique and artistry more evident than in the intricate work of Peter and Traudl Markgraf. Working together in the basement of their Sunshine Coast (British Columbia) home they coaxed layers of light and shadow out of nylon screens and onto paper.
The process they used is called screen printing. It started with an original sketch as a reference point from which they created a drawing directly on the screen. A large piece of nylon was stretched over a wooden frame and paper placed underneath. The screen was positioned on top and the image was printed by forcing paint through the nylon with a rubber squeegee. This painstaking procedure took up to 15 screens per print.
In their over 30 years of print making the Markgrafs not only mastered print making techniques, they pioneered them. Essential to their success was their committment to working together. From beginning to end, there was no division of labor.
Their work has earned them an international reputation and an ever expanding audience who seek to share their vision. less
