This Modernist vintage signed and Hallmarked Museum Collectible Sterling Silver and obsidian Crescent Collar necklace and dangle earrings set are one of Antonio Pineda's iconic designs from the 1950's! Fabricated of 970 sterling silver, it features 17 crescent obsidian stones with a slight iridescence. which come together to form links in a multi layer collar. The crescent obsidian stones are encased in sterling silver . The curved links are connected to gracefully form to the neck. The necklace and earrings look striking when worn, made to impress! The crescent shaped clasp is very substantial and there is a safety chain for added security. On the back of the clasp are several markings: "HECHO EN MEXICO", "YY456", "970", with a stamp and the Antonio Pineda crown hallmark is on the post drop earrings. Magnificent historic pieces, they would make a perfect addition to any collection! This design was exhibited in the recent museum exhibit SILVER SEDUCTION: THE ART OF MEXICAN MODERNIST ANTONIO PINEDA - hallmarked with the Antonio crown, 970 for silver content and the eagle stamp 208. Shown prominently, this set on the cover, and in many other Books on Mexico Jewelry. Antonio designs are part of the LACMA's permanent 20th century Mexican silver collection. Antonio began his design career as an apprentice to William Spratling. Considered one of the finest Mexican silver craftsmen of the twentieth century, Antonio Pineda began his art at a young age. He studied painting and sculpture as a youth and at age 14 he was apprenticed to Taller de Las Delicias of William Spratling to learn the silversmith craft. Antonio founded his own workshop in 1941 and his talent flourished. His work is shown in many books about Mexican jewelry and this necklace appears prominently in a few. Measurement: The necklace measures approximately 14 1/2" long. the earrings approximately 2 1/2" long. Condition: The overall condition of the pieces are excellent. Besides normal surface wear, and a small dent on the stud, otherwise there are no apparent damage to the sterling setting or to any of the stones. The clasp and security chain are secure and in good working condition.
