This unique Églomisé checkerboard with a wooden frame is surrounded by 1920s advertising from Middletown, Connecticut.
"Églomisé is a French term meaning “gilded glass” and refers to the process of applying both a design and gilding onto the rear face of glass to produce a mirror finish. To be clear, Églomisé is technically not the style of the mirror per say, but more of a decoration technique."
We are dating it from the older telephone numbers with only three digits. Later, four digits were used. In December 1920, as the phone company prepared for direct local dialing, all numbers became four digits.
A charming piece of New England history.
