In the past, the horse Dala was mainly used as a toy for children, while today it became a symbol of Dalarna and Sweden in general.
It was in the small huts sunk in the forests, during the long winter nights in front of the fire of the fireplace, that the precursors of the horse Dala were born. Using simple tools, generally only a knife, the carvers created toys for their children. It is natural that many of these toys were horses, given that the horse in those times was a trusted friend and a worker capable of towing large loads of wood from forests during the winter months, while in the summer it could have been useful in the fields.
