Offering a pair of porcelain Golden Phoenix Chickens made by Norcrest of Japan, circa 1960s, both labeled. These luscious birds appear to be Roosters but in actuality are a cross breeding that was done in the late 19th Century.
The Golden Phoenix is a German breed of long-tailed chicken. It derives from cross-breeding of imported long-tailed Japanese birds similar to the Onagadori with other breeds....see Chinese Zodiac meaning below.
The colors are an exquisite array of yellow/orange breasts and a wonderful teal colored long tail. The combs and wattles are red. The male is slightly larger and has longer flowing tail feathers than the hen. These colorful birds are very delicate porcelain and intricately hand-painted and well executed as seen from the photos. Both signed on bottom with original silver foil label: "Norcrest, crafted in Japan". Hard to believe they made it all these years without any damage considering their fragile feathers, legs, and grass bases.
EXCELLENT CONDITION. No flaws whatsoever....just perfect!
A perfect pair of figurines for the trending Boho Chic décor that loves animals, especially birds. They would look great on their own separate wall shelves and would add a splash of color to the trending "salon" wall, which is very popular right now in the interior design trend.

Chinese Zodiac Meaning:
Rooster (or Chicken) ranks the tenth among the Chinese zodiac animals. In Chinese culture, Rooster represents fidelity and punctuality, for it wakes people up on time. People born in the year of the Rooster are beautiful, kind-hearted, hard-working, courageous, independent, humorous and honest. They like to keep home neat and organized. On the other side, they might be arrogant, self-aggrandizing, persuasive to others and wild as well as admire things or persons blindly less
