---------------------------------
the peill and sohn glassworks in düren, destroyed in world war ii, and the putzler brothers' works in penzig, expropriated by the polish state, merged in 1946. This resulted in the dürener werk with the directors günther peill and hans ahrenkiel under the name peill + putzler in 1952. The first glass was melted in 1948. In 1994 this important smelter had to stop its work. Important designers such as prof. Wagenfeld, wilhelm braun-feldweg and aloys f. Gangkofner worked for glashüttenwerke peill and putzler and made it known above all among architects. The cooperation with aloys f. Gangkofner lasted from 1953-1958. A multitude of lighting models as well as goblet sets were created. The timeless iris glass was produced and sold until the 1980s. Aloys f. Gangkofner developed new techniques for inflating the light fittings, which he had already tested in waldsassen. The implementation of these techniques for industrial production detached the forms from the objective austerity of the early 1950s and gave them individual independence. The luminaires not only served their purpose, but were also an accentuated form for modern space in their unlit state. Venezia was a particularly successful model.
