Minimal gold leaf loss, vibrant, strong colors, in tact enamel ornamentations in all raised adornments, beautiful lustrous finish throughout. Pair of male & female mid century Komainu or 'Foo' Dogs- also called Shishi or 'Lion Dog' 11.75" tall 7.5" long 5.75" in depth Condition notes: In amazingly good shape for their age. Minimal gold leaf loss, vibrant, strong colors, in tact enamel ornamentations in all raised adornments, beautiful lustrous finish throughout. Structural: On the female dog - on the side where her face is not facing towards you, there are 2 fine hairline repairs visible on the base. There isn't any weakness in the area however- the repairs are strong and the finish is continuous. The repair is hardly detectable if you are not scrutinizing it. When you do shake her up and down there is a small ceramic piece in the lower compartment that still rattles from the original event. The repair is visible in the picture where I have the front and side view of the repair without any mark-up, and below it, the same areas with the mark-up overlay outlining or pointing to where the repair is. Other than that, both Foo Dog statues are in very good vintage condition. less
