Depicts both male and … more Offered here is a Meiji period Satsuma vase made in Japan, likely just prior to 1900. Depicts both male and female Japanese faces. Moriage and gilt embellishments. Foo dog handles (almost all the gilt has worn off the handles). Stands about 9 1/2" tall.

Crazing consistent with age. Some wear to the gilt finish. Very small glancing chip off of the ruffled top rim. I have a strong suspicion that the base was broken off in the distant past and reattached. I might be wrong, as the repair (if is is one) is very, very good. I've taken three close-up photos of that base, turning it to different areas so you can judge for yourself. If it is a repair, only you will know it is there.

The price of this piece has been discounted because the maker is unknown (it is unsigned), because there is a tiny glancing chip on the rim, and maybe a repair to the base. less
