Offered is a commemorative Schering Pharmaceuticals ceramic mortar and wood pestle made in the early 1960s by McCoy Pottery that comes with its original wood pestle.
It features a raised relief in a high-gloss honey-colored glaze celebrating Moses Maimonides (1135 - 1204), a rabbi, physician and philosopher renowned as the Father of Pharmacology. On the other side of the jar there is a raised relief design of the ‘Rx’ pharmacy symbol as well as the Latin motto of the apothecary: "Secundum Artem" - which means "To make favourably with skill."
The McCoy Pottery Company produced numerous promotional advertising pieces for different firms that were marked with the customer's name or logo. The bottom of this jar has a cork bottom with the Schering logo in black.
The ceramic mortar measures 5.25" in width, has a mouth and base that are 3" in diameter, and is 5.25" in height.
The Walnut wood pestle that has "CORICIDIN" (a medicine used to treat headaches, runny noses, allergies, etc.) imprinted on the stem measures 6.75 L x 1.125" W. less
