Sumac braided sisal rug with a 100% hand-knotted New Zealand wool overlay.
The pattern on this rug was inspired by a collection of vintage Swedish herbarium sheets we found antiquing. In our color exploration, we created two rugs reflecting the seasons. Winter embraces the pale icy blues, deep evergreens and muted mustards.
This rug was created in a technique conceived by Ward & Gray, inspired by vintage textiles and handmade in India. We admired a vintage silk textile with embroidered motifs but
reinterpreted the silk as a natural fiber field and the “embroidery” as a wool overlay. The overlay is made from hand-spun New Zealand wool, which is known for its soft texture and provides contrast against the natural fiber.
Lead time is 14-16 weeks.
