1980s Vintage Neoclassical Empire Style Faux Burl Painted Glass Coffee Table

The table features an over 1/2" thick glass top with a visually striking "compass rose" star in the center encircled by a Grecian wave motif over a faux burl texture. The design has been applied to the underside of the glass and appears to have been painted on with a "verre églomisé" technique complete with gilt gold accents that gives it a deep lustrous shine. The design is sealed with a velvet-like protective cover. The legs are faux burl-wrapped steel with solid brass claw feat and accents that hearken to the Neoclassical Empire style. There are no brands or marks to identify this piece. Eclectic is perhaps the best we can find to describe this table, but it may be similar to the highly sought after works of Gio Ponti or Maison Jensen.
