An important painting of a lovely young girl and her dog, signed by Louis Francois-Gerard Van Der Puyl in 1785. … more An important painting of a lovely young girl and her dog, signed by Louis Francois-Gerard Van Der Puyl in 1785. The girl is seated on the steps of a terrace in a formal garden. Originally part of the Balch Collection and was bequeathed by Mr. & Mrs. Allan C. Balch to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Painting was then sold through Sotheby’s Los Angeles in November 1977. The reverse of the painting has letters of affirmation.

The painting is on panel and framed in a gold gilt frame. Measures overall 19 ½” x 17” and painting 10 ½” x 13”. The painting is in good condition, no damage, frame has slight scuff to bottom; see photos.

Artist Louis Francois-Gerard Van Der Puyl lived from 1750 to 1824. He was a Dutch Old Master Painter and was active in the Netherlands. He is currently displayed in the Philadelphia Museum of Art, among others.
