Lovely and distinctive Italian enameled copper bowl; it was made with the ancient and now lost technique of high-fire enameling on metal; after shaping the copper bowl with a hammer, the enameling craftsman evenly enameled the lower part, then with great skill created the design on the inside, then placed the desired colors in the form of oxides on the design itself, heated the whole thing "by a great fire," but paying close attention to the temperature to prevent the colors from all melting together instead of remaining separate; it is only the skill and mastery of the craftsman that makes it possible to create similar objects.
The bowl was made between 1950 and 1955 in a workshop in Padua by master craftsmen who certainly collaborated with Paolo De Poli. Paolo De Poli (Padua, 1905-1996), a multifaceted artist trained between Padua and Venice, breathed new life into the ancient art of working enamel on metal, extending its traditional fields of application (precious objects, sacred art) to objects and furnishings, trespassing into the proper spheres of design.
The bowl is in good condition, the lines seen in some photos are part of the workmanship and appear depending on the light the bowl receives; they are not a defect.
