Large chrome and glass table lamp temde switzerland, 1970s impressive table/floor lamp in very good condition. Manufactured by temde in the 1970s this lamp has a heavy chrome plated metal base which holds the glass and the socket inside the glass. The handmade glass shade is beautifully shaped and has a bubble pattern trapped inside. The bubble pattern creates a spectaculair effect when lit. This lamp is a stunning piece that seamlessly combines elegance, craftsmanship, and functionality. It is also a quite famous piece since it was used in stanley kubrick’s 1970s movie “a clockwork orange” light source: e27 / e26 edison screw fitting max 100w. Temde leuchten, a german-swiss manufacturer of lighting fixtures, was founded by fritz müller in 1911, headquartered in detmold (north rhine-westphalia) and subsidiary in sevelen, switzerland. In its early time, only wood (mostly teak) made lamps were made. Since the 1930s, temde has also been producing lighting elements made of modern materials such as chrome and glass. However, wood is still the dominant part. Now in the vintage market, those non-wood lamps by temde are of significant scarcity. Although fritz müller expanded the operational infrastructure and his company offered 250 basic models in the mid-1950’s, temde did not profit so much from the general economic boom of the 1950s, and eventually filed for bankruptcy in 1986. Temde was mostly regarded as a very “utopian” brand of its time, with its uncompromised and advanced unique style, highly independent designing process, and superb turn-out quality. However, after decades, temde’s lamps are worldwide pursued again by interior design lovers. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
