It depicts the Bastille fortress with a vigilant patrolling peasant. It was made to remind French citizens to be watchful and observant during the time of the French Revolution. It is a highly collectible plate, hand molded and hand painted with vibrant colors. It has a festooned floral and geometric surround and scalloped edge. The plate has the painted mark L on the reverse. It is also called faïence parlante or faïence patriotique.

* Antique ceramics with staple (rivet) repairs are very collectible.
