The pattern on this rug was inspired by a collection of vintage Swedish herbarium sheets we found antiquing. In our color exploration, we created two rugs reflecting the seasons. Autumn brings fiery hues of burgundy and burnt orange foliage.
This rug was created in a technique conceived by Ward & Gray, inspired by vintage textiles and handmade in India. We admired a vintage silk textile with embroidered motifs but
reinterpreted the silk as a natural fiber field and the “embroidery” as a wool overlay. The overlay is made from hand-spun New Zealand wool, which is known for its soft texture and provides contrast against the natural fiber.
