Milk glass can be white, translucent or opaque and sometimes colored. It was first created in Venice, in the Julian years 1601-1699. It was originally called Opal Glass. The addition of bone ash, arsenic or tin oxide gave it the milky color we recognize today. Imperial Glass Company, formerly of Bellaire, Ohio, made high quality glass from 1904-1982. This particular example of milk glass made by Imperial, is a lovely vase with a spectacular design. The bulb style base is covered with a bramble of Loganberries and leaves. The top has a ruffled design with more leaves and berries. This piece is in excellent vintage condition, no chips, cracks or crazing. There is a teeny tiny black speck, that looks like a manufacturing development. See pic. It measures 10" tall x 6" at widest. Great Shabby Chic look. See less
